An effort to create an ambigrammatic logo for my trebuchet. Every letter pairing is almost natual except for the pesky P/n combo.

Pendragon threw an 8.8-pound pumpkin 441 feet last year at a competition- my goal this year is to break the tenth-mile (528 feet) mark.

Video clip of the trebuchet (and its scale model) in action:

This ambigram is inspired by the similar V/Y combination used in NagFa’s ‘velocity’ mirror ambigram.

Frequently Searched Terms

Hundreds of online searches for ambigrams happen every day (especially recently), and three specific search terms occur very frequently.

How to Make Ambigrams

This topic has been covered here at this previous post:

https://ambigramdesign.wordpress.com/2009/06/01/advice-on-creating-ambigrams/

…but in short, the 2 best resources for ambigram advice are ambigram.com’s ‘design secrets’ column, and John Langdon’s advice page.

 Ambigram Generator

There are two options for generators:

The AmbiMatic, made in 1996, is free, but the results are extremely rough, and the words must be the same length.

The second is the newer ‘Glyphusion’ generator. The results it produces are much more refined but is not free. The site offers a free watermarked preview, and the finished product can be purchased.

There are no downloadable ambigram generators at the moment, but the ‘iAmbigram’ application (which uses the same ‘Glyphusion’ engine as Flipscript and Wow Tattoos) is available for the iPhone.

Ambigram Font

No font currently exists to make rotational ambigrams (which would be impossible with only 26 characters).

However, making reflective (along the horizontal axis) ambigrams with a single font is possible. In fact, not only is it possible, but it has recently been done- while it may not be the final version (the author states that alterations are likely), it is available for download:
